Anyone who's anyone has heard of the fashion design of Vera Wang. She is most notable for hers designer wedding dresses and many celebrities find them a must-have for their special days. Where did Vera Wang get her start? You might be surprised to hear that her original dreams were to become an Olympic figure skater.
Vera Wang was born to Chinese parents who managed to remove their daughter from harms way during the communist revolution. She was born in 1949, and as mentioned above, attempted to join the Olympic team but was not successful. This was great for the fashion design world who could not imagine Vera Wang being absent from fashion design history.
After her failed attempt, she went to study in Sorbonne in Paris. Her next stop was Sarah Lawrence College here in the United States. When she graduated in 1970, she had attained a BA in Liberal Arts.
Upon graduation, she was the youngest editor to work on Vogue team. She then went on to work with another great name in fashion design, Ralph Lauren. By 1990, Vera Wang was ready to open the doors to her very own fashion place on Madison Avenue in New York taking her spot alongside other great names in the fashion design industry. In 1994, she would finally launch her own label cementing her name in the fashion industry.
Today, her wedding dresses and fashion design have given her a life long notoriety for being one of the top fashion designers in our time. Vera Wang's elegance shows us that modern fashion designs do not have to jump over the edge but can still remain classic and timeless. Fortunately, for many celebrities her parents decided to reach for a better life and someone had the skill to take her spot on the Olympic figure skating team.
